To journey without being changed is to be a nomad.
To change without journeying is to be a chameleon.
To journey and be transformed by the journey is to be a pilgrim
Eternal Echos, by Mark Nepo
Many of us dream of traveling.
It fills us with wonder, adventure and an anticipation of experiencing something yet unknown. We plan, research, save our money to purchase tickets and make reservations. We pack and double check plans in order to ensure a safe and pleasant experience. We look forward with joyful expectation.
I have a question to ask - in all the planning do we prepare ourselves ‘interiorily’? Do we prepare our soul? Are we aware that God desires to meet us in our travels – to walk with us and reveal things yet unknown. One must be open to noticing, receptive and reflective. How might God reveal Himself as we meet new people, experience language, art, culture, history, sights and smells and tastes.
And as one walks - do we see God in our midst when things don’t go as planned, when one encounters conflict or disappointment? Our life is a journey and on each path whether chosen or not - discover that God is in your midst loving you, shaping you and using time and experience to help you discover your ‘self’, others and your place in the world.
“Didn’t our hearts burn within us as he (Jesus) talked with us on the road….
Luke 24: 32 (The Living Bible)
We have designed a Pilgrimage to Japan to learn and experience the history of the early Christians of Japan (16th -17th centuries). Our Sovereign God demonstrates eternal love and faithfulness to all in time and space through receiving the gospel, persecution, martyrdom ‘hiddenness’ and a new found freedom gather, pray and worship.
