All Seasons Condemns Racism and Violence Against Asians and Asian Americans
March 21, 2021
On March 17, 2021 - The tragic and senseless shooting claimed the lives of eight innocent people. We recognize and honor these precious lives:
Soon Chung Park
Hyun Jung Grant
Sun Cha Kim
Yong Ae Yue
Delaina Ashley Yaun
Paul Andre Michels
Xiaojie Tan
Daoyou Feng
We express our heartfelt condolences to the families at the passing of their loved ones. We stand together during these troubling times and seek justice and change.
Our response and commitment:
We at All Seasons Counseling and Spiritual Direction are deeply saddened and outraged by the hate, racism, and violence against the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) communities. While hate, racism, and violence against our community have deep historical roots, the latest hate crimes against our community members, including the murders of eight people, of which six were women of Asian descent on March 16 near Atlanta, Georgia; the countless recent physical attacks on our elders; and the threatening and expletive-laden graffiti left at International Full Gospel Church in our hometown of Seattle have escalated since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Violence and hate against AAPI communities are rooted in systemic racism that affects all communities of color. Systemic racism can pit groups of color against each other in order to further a belief and an infrastructure where those who are deemed to be white are seen as superior to those who are not. All Seasons condemns all forms of racism against all people of color. We stand against people using God’s name in vain in order to rationalize their self-serving motivations for carrying out hate crimes.
During these difficult times, we ask you to join us in solidarity against hate and racism. By faith, we will continue to use our ministry to denounce racism and to provide a place for AAPIs to seek counseling, healing, and guidance in the midst of unsettling times. We ask that our church leaders and partners stand together with us to pray for and reach out to our AAPI communities to provide emotional and spiritual support to our community members in need during this time.
Additionally, we unite with the national movement of Asian American Christian Collaborative and with our King County elected officials of Asian descent who have made public statements.
All Seasons is here to listen, help and engage in being used as an instrument of understanding, healing, justice, reconciliation and transformation. Let us stand and serve together with faith and courage.
Sincerely,
Carolyn Shimabukuro, on behalf of the
All Seasons Board of Directors and Counselors and Spiritual Directors
